Veenhuizen is surrounded by mysteries, from the peat to the Vierde Gesticht (Fourth Asylum). Was there once a church on the hill in the forest that is now called the Spaanse Kerkhof (Spanish Churchyard)? Who were the people who were sent to the penal colony?
