For both culture and nature lovers Veenhuizen is the place to be. Extraordinary architecture, museums, art galleries and lots of impressive nature are all a stone’s throw away and ask to be explored.
It is recommended to follow one of the four signposted walking routes. Two of them can also be done by bike.
The red, blue, yellow and white routes take you along the prison museum, ice dome and steam spinning, through the Sterrebos (Star forest) and along the Spaanse Kerkhof (Spanish Graveyard) – names that surely appeal to one’s imagination…
You will find several nice pit stops along the signposted routes where you can have something to eat and drink.
You can expand the routes with a tour through the vast Fochteloërveen or the brook valley of the Slokkert.
With the Tourist Info Point at Oude Gracht, you will find a clear map and booklets with lots of information the places of interest along the four routes, among others.
