De Schuilhoeve Campground is located at the Kolonievaart channel, a stone’s throw from Veenhuizen. It is a small campground on a farm that accommodates a lot of curious but friendly animals, from goats to peacocks. There are spacious sites for caravans, campers and tents and there is a cheerful patio where bicycle tourists also like to enjoy a drink or an ice cream. Immediately behind the campground is the Fochteloërveen, with its expanses of peat bogs, with peat moor dwellers such as the crane. There are an abundance of cycling and walking paths in the area, and there is good fishing and sailing in the canal. Veenhuizen is within easy cycling distance of the rural Schuilhoeve.
